Macro

I have done a fair bit of macro work during Covid. I have shot a variety of subjects from water droplets to insects and other small animals. It is quite technical to shoot and light these subjects and there were many more failures than keepers! Here's my selection, the cover shot title is "The Crimson Cobra". Karma

Stoked to capture this shot of a Chamleon catching its prey. Very difficult to get it all in the frame its tongue is 14 inches long!!

Killer Mantis

These insects are voracious predators. This was the least disturbing shot of it having lunch.

Laurel and Hardy

two of the weirder collisions created very different shapes. I did add a second "eye" to the first shot for my own amusement.

Jumping Spider

Very small, very hairy and very colourful fangs. These boys are very cute. They are very quick so to catch then in a decent pose is quite a challenge.

Ladybird About to Take Off

A very early macro shot, the auto focus on the G9 was pretty rubbish. It was shot wide open to get the shutter speed up and so DoF very narrow.

Yellow Hat

Added milk to the water bowl and drop tank to give a smooth effect to the collision.

A shot of reflected trees in the water drops of a spiders web. My favourite creative macro shot.

Tree Frog in Plastic Lily

Some of the props at this shoot were a bit naff, the plastic lily being one. I think it works ok. The frog is real, beautiful creature.

Horse Fly Eye

A detailed look at the eye of a horsefly. I did not have the kit to do a photo stack but still plenty of detail where it is needed.

Aubergine Glow

I used coloured paper behind the water bowl which gives the aubergine colour to the scene. Shot in the dark with a slow shutter and two flashes to catch the impact at the critical point. A real hit and miss process!
